The Covenant is an agreement between the Youth Leaders and the youth.
This is who we are and what we're about!
The Youth Leaders Covenant to:
1) do our best to love and challenge every youth to learn and grow in
Christ and to grow in areas of need.
(This can only happen through relationships! As we get to know you, we promise to do
our best to help you realize your potential both as an individual and as a person God
loves and cherishes.)
2) do our best to keep Haven a safe and encouraging place
(Since life is difficult and confusing, we understand how important it is to have a
safe and reassuring place to be and we will do our best to maintain this environment)
3) deal with issues on an individual basis
(We realize that everyone is different and may have different reasons for why they do
the things they do. We do our best to take this into account. We do not promise to
handle every situation the same way with every person, or to let everyone know what
we have done in regard to a given situation; we can only promise to listen and
prayerfully consider what to do. Due to the nature of some issues we deal with, we
reserve the right to consult with parents if the issue requires, or perhaps even the
police if the situation requires.)
These are some of the standards we uphold:
-no illegal stuff: drugs, alcohol, smoking
(also, we do not believe in joking about these activities)
-modesty in dress
(Everything we wear makes a statement about ourselves)
-glorifying immorality
(this could be through music, video games, or other means. It's not what we're about)
4) help make Haven a place we all want to be part of
(Since we're just like you, we want to enjoy our time together; but more than that, we
want to have a meaningful time of interaction with you in your lives and share ours with
you. We're not afraid of prayer and hard work; we only ask that we all learn and grow
together)
The Youth Covenant to:
1) be open to what God has for me in my life
(You don't have to be a Christian to come to group, only that you are open to what
God has for you)
2) to show respect for others
(This is another attitude that gets us in the door! We realize we are not better than
anyone else. With this understanding, we will not make negative comments towards
others in the group, even siblings and best friends! We understand we are here to
enourage and be encouraged; to build each other up, not to tear each other down)
3) abide by the guardrails of the group
(Sometimes we pass dangerous areas as we drive down the road, and that people
have set up guardrails in these places to protect us from danger. We understand that
there are also guardrails set up at Haven and we shouldn't try to break them
down. In fact, we realize that we shouldn't even scrape against them!)
4) do my part to make Haven a great group
(In addition to the above, this means participating in our activities and possibly even
helping out from time to time! Sometimes this may even mean a special project, a
special trip, or perhaps even helping on a devotional!)
